This is our third and final Izelle Hoffman recipe in our DIY SALT ‘n SEASONINGS series. Rosemary and mustard is the perfect combination to create any honey and mustard dish to die for! All it needs is a drizzle of raw honey and you are ready to impress even your mother-in-law!
Rosemary Mustard Salt Seasoning
70g Oryx Desert Salt
10g mustard seeds
5g mustard powder
5g dried rosemary
2g onion seeds
1.Prepare flavourings: Ingredients should be dry and small (ground, chopped, flaked)
If you prefer using fresh rosemary, dry the herbs in the oven at a low temperature (60-80’C) or in a dehydrator.
2. Combine the whole mustard seeds, mustard powder, rosemary and onion seeds with the salt. Combine using a small bowl, mix well but avoid pulverising the salt.
3. Store the mix in an airtight container, or ziplock bag.
4, Ideally let it sit at least a day before using. Intensity of flavour will diminish over time, but it can last for a couple of months.
Ideal for meat dishes like grilled chicken, stir-fry, roast or even as braai salt. Combine with raw honey for the perfect honey & mustard dish.
Mustard– is anti-aging, improves metabolism, boosts the immune system and lowers cholesterol
Rosemary– is antiseptic, antiviral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory! A natural painkiller that boosts the immune system.
Onion seeds– are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and a powerful antioxidant.
So why wouldn’t you want to use a salt seasoning mix like this every day!
