Small 4-unit salt, pepper, chilli grinder + cotton bag coarse salt refill in a shweshwe gift box.

We use a blend of 3 different varieties of chilies - Birds Eye, Afghan and Thai. These chilies are grown by Backyard Farms - a community empowerment project creating an income for Gogos (grandmothers) in Gugulethu, a community near Cape Town.

We source our full-flavoured, black pepper exclusively from small, independent co-operative farmers in Madagascar where the berries are grown without chemicals, hand-harvested and sorted.

We’ve chosen variations of shweshwe for our gift range because of its iconic, distinct and instantly recognisible print design, widely celebrated as the ‘denim of South Africa’. It’s one of a few designs that communicates a specific geographic and cultural legacy through pattern alone and is deeply rooted in the cultural history of South Africa. We love it as it remains a cornerstone of traditional and contemporary African fashion.

Our 100% cotton bags are handmade by a local collective of seamstresses running their own business.

Our ceramic grinder head mechanisms are built to last and grinders can be refilled many times (more than 20) continuing to provide a smooth (and plastic-free) grind.
